Our story
It started with a flyer on a mailbox
Building villages through intentional community — because stronger relationships create stronger communities.
How it began
A village built one connection at a time
Our founder, Ashley, was freshly postpartum and craving connection. When she searched for a mom community in Tucson, she came up empty — there simply weren't any public groups that weren't tied to a religious organization. So she did what any resourceful mama would do: she built one herself. She put flyers on mailboxes and doors, started a private Facebook group, and began hosting weekly events right in her own neighborhood.
Word spread quickly. Within three months, moms from all over Tucson were asking to join — and Monsoon Mamas was officially born in July of 2025. Even the name has a great story: Ashley borrowed it from local Tucson artist Jos Par, who had designed a t-shirt with those two words on it. He said yes, and the rest is history. Monsoon Mamas launched on social media at the end of June 2025 and grew to 1,000 followers in just 45 days.
Almost a year in, Ashley had a realization: moms aren't the only ones longing for connection. Women in every season of life were searching for the same thing — a place to belong. And so, Saguaro Circle was born, followed by Desert Village Collective — a home for all of it, and a commitment to keep building villages for women in Tucson.
What we believe
Our mission
"The mission of Desert Village Collective is to build villages through intentional community, and bring people together through shared experiences, authentic relationships, and opportunities for connection that strengthen our community. We focus on creating spaces where women in every season of life can gather, belong, and grow together. We aim to support local Tucson businesses and community resources, because stronger relationships create stronger communities."
